Paleo Klima - Aghios loannis Kastri - Paleo Klima

Route 10 starts and finishes in the traditional village of Paleo Klima, one of the most picturesque settlements on Skopelos. The trail follows the old stone-paved footpath climbing through the village's eastern neighbourhood before continuing past traditional olive groves and vineyards.

The route then follows quiet rural roads, forest tracks and well-preserved footpaths winding through fragrant pine forests, strawberry trees, and wild olive trees. This peaceful journey through the northern countryside of Skopelos gradually leads hikers to the chapel of Aghios Ioannis at Kastri, dramatically perched on top of a steep rocky outcrop rising above the Aegean Sea. The setting is truly unique, with vast views stretching across the coastline and the open sea.

Following its appearance in the internationally acclaimed musical film Mamma Mia!, the chapel has become one of Skopelos' most visited and photographed landmarks, attracting visitors from around the world. To experience the site at its most peaceful, consider starting your hike early in the morning, before the busiest hours, when you can fully appreciate the beauty and tranquillity of the place.
